Breech Loading
A breach-loading shotgun is typically defined as one that
"breaks" open on a hinge-like mechanism to
expose the chamber(s) at the rear of the barrel. The shot
shell is placed directly into the chamber and the gun
is closed in order to shoot.
A breach loading
side-by-side or
over-under shotgun has considerable appeal in the
field. The mechanisms are simple, easy to clean, and there's
simply no question that when broken open, the guns are safe
to carry.
